Days in Taipei

I might be the only one who hasn’t been to Taipei among the exchange students since we came to Taiwan. As a result of which, no one is going to travel together with me. I have to console myself that being a lonely backpacker is cool. It turns out that what I thought is right. Taipei city is a place where you’d better visit alone.

5 hours later, I finally arrived at the drizzly city. After checking in, I went to the Hsimenting which is said to be the most popular district among the young people. The whole city was covered by the haze, with the foggy and gray sky. However, the young people walking in the Hsimenting were wearing colorful clothes, making the city less dark.

It was interesting that the youngsters there mistook me as a tourist from Hong Kong. They were trying to selling some ornaments to me which were not valuable but with a high price. They also appeared in almost all the tourists attractions in Taipei. This was rarely seen in Beijing or Shanghai.

When the night falls, Hsimenting became more beautiful. I had been wondering why this place could be popular since 60 years ago. When I saw the movie street there and the ubiquitous big screen showing the newest movie trailers, I knew that it was the film that made the essence of the Hsimenting. There were numerous cinemas, with even more restaurants around. The movies stars and the singers see Hsimenting as the first place to hold a fan meeting. This makes Hsimenting a place full of fashion and the fashion clothes shops provide the latest dresses.

Another amazing place in Taipei was the 101 building. Hsimenting and 101 building reminded me strongly that I was in the biggest city in Taiwan. I had nothing to say but praise when I got on the 89^th floor by the elevator in less than 40 seconds. Even though the annoying drizzle had been raining, I was still very exciting when I looked down the Taipei city from above. I just wanted to jump down and felt the roaring wind.

I think every city should have a building like 101 building. When the citizens oversee their city, they must be very proud of being a member of the city and be more active to take responsibility as a citizen.

Different from Kaohsiung, Taipei is inseparable with history. You can easily sink into the past when you saw the cultural and historical relics.

The Palace Museum is the most historic place in Taipei and it is a must-see attraction for the tourists. I entered the museum at 9 o’clock in the morning and walked out at 3 o’clock in the afternoon just because I was both hungry and thirsty. Otherwise I would spend another 2 hour there.

The famous Jadeite Cabbage and the banded jasper resembling a slab of meat are the greatest treasure in Palace Museum. However what really touched me were those articles for daily use. People in the past did not know the technology as we do but they could still make such wonderful implements.

I liked a ring made of jade in the Neolithic Age. I was imagining that a man who loved his wife used a knife to carve the jade day after day. He didn’t have the necessary tools as we do and he just kept doing that by willpower. This was way too precious than the big diamond ring nowadays.

The exhibition about Emperor Yong Zheng in the museum changed my impression on the ancient emperors. I was surprised that the emperor could write such a good hand. From the files which the emperor instructed his ministers, I found that the emperor in the ancient times was actually very judicious. If he was born in the modern society, I am sure he could be a famous manager of a big company.

Someone told me that if you went to Taipei you must go to Danshui to have a look. Danshui? The first impression appeared in my mind about Danshui is that it is the hometown of Jay Chou. So many popular songs that Jay Chou composed are in the background of Danshui. Only for this reason I would like to go there.

It turned out that Danshui was more than Jay Chou. I liked the old town as soon as I arrived there. The rain didn’t disappoint me but make the town more charming. I walked along the old street and held the umbrella. There was a moment that I feel that I walked into the past. This feeling is wonderful.

The Danshui town is called the Easten Venice for some reason. With the rain, the scenery along the Danshui river is very impressive. The estuary is not far away and the river is broad, which gives me the illusion that the water and the sky were of one hue.

Getting on the ship to Fisherman Pier, this feeling was much stronger. The boat got a bad shake due to the wind and the rain. It was just like that I was a seagull in the sky, lonely and helpless but the feeling was very exciting.

The Fisherman Pier in Danshui is said to be the first one in Taiwan. I didn’t think there was much difference between this one and the one in Kaohsiung. There were some coffee shops and a fish market. The coffee and cakes are general but the feeling was different when you sit there watching the wave flapping the window just in front of you.

The lonely trip to Taipei city is great. I hope I could be there once more.

何謂新古典經濟學之限制？新經濟理論的修正為何？

盡管新古典經濟學是極度地使用統計分析，但卻為提供一個適當的概念架構去分析經濟的變動和全球經濟的原動力；舉例而言，它不能解釋在口味上的變動和技術變動等外生的因素。

研究途徑的三個缺陷：1.對于經濟事務而言，缺乏一個時間上的范圍以及一個空間上的范圍，同時假設經濟活動是發生在一個缺乏歷史及地理的抽象世界之中。2.新古典經濟學對技術和技術的變動之來源，給予了錯誤的關注。3.新古典經濟學也忽略了經濟制度的重要性和其它制度的重要性，對于政府和其他制度的角色卻不予理會。

新成長理論，新經濟地理學，以及新貿易理論挑戰了新古典學派的一些基本假設，例如完全競爭、固定規模報酬、充分的資訊等。這些新的理論強調寡占競爭、規模經濟、技術的創新，同時它們也納入歷史的進程、制度、以及空間的關系。新理論所描述的世界，是個在各國經濟體制中同時存在分歧和整合的世界，對于那些經濟體的經濟事務，政府是可以也確實扮演一個重要的角色，同時技術的創新也是一個重要的特征。

新古典經濟學解釋經濟事務時，并未考慮到歷史和地理，因此其對於橫跨時空的經濟體運作之理解，在應用性上是有限制的。新古典學派的理論通常忽略了因為經濟成長所產生的不可避免的那些經濟的變動、政治的變動、及其它社會結構的變動。

新古典學派的限制。1.時空限制。a.未能提出經濟體的歷史。b. 未對經濟體進展的本質提出一個解釋。c.認為只要每一個經濟體是依據比較利益法則行為時，經濟活動的地域分佈并無太大的重要性。d.國際分工的地理分佈和長期經濟活動在空間上的組建之變動。
2.技術創新。a.因為技術的進展被認為是外生於經濟體系的，所以經濟學家對此并未發展有完全的理解。b.因為經濟學家將技術視為每個人皆能公平取得的一個公共財，故他們并未適當地認知到技術獨占的重要性。c.因為生產函數理論假設經濟行動者對於可利用的技術是有完整的或特定的知識，而且是每個行動者皆可取得的，故經濟學家通常無法將不確定性整合入其著作中。3.由于他們對于市場的重視，導致許多人，忽略了組織的重要性。制度被解釋為理性個體企欲最大化其利益而產生的，以新古典為例，一般都會忽略在經濟的制度及其他的制度之起源中偶然的事件

新理論把空間上的范圍和時間上的范圍二者引介進入經濟學的分析之中，將技術的創新置為他們分析的重心，同時對於像是各國政府和公司這些制度，派定其為經濟體中的一個重要角色。

新古典經濟學對於行為的根本假設是，社會是由理性個體所組成，而這些理性個體的首要目的，就是去極大化他們的利益，而新理論相對于傳統新古典經濟學的部分，就是他們1.主張有不完全競爭市場或獨占市場.2.強調技術創新的重要性。3.運用歷史或路徑依賴，作為一個解釋上的變項。

制度/規模經濟/不完全競爭
新理論已對產業組織領域之研究上的發展產生強烈的影響。此類的研究強調產業領域的組成及在整個經濟體中，規模經濟和不完全競爭的重要性，此已挑戰了所有的經濟過程都是以固定報酬及完全競爭為特色之假設。

技術創新
新理論強烈地強調技術創新對於經濟成長、經濟活動于空間上的分布，及國際間競爭的重要性。技術創新已成為先進國家的經濟成長之首要決定性因素。

歷史與地理
對於新古典經濟學家而言，經濟體，是未占有時間和空間的，同時以均衡一詞，來界定新古典學派的經濟體和市場均衡，實在一個超越時空的狀態下同時被加以解釋的。新古典經濟學家假設國家型的經濟體，不是別的，僅僅就是空間中的一個沒有空間度量的點，同時國際經濟僅是一群相互連結的點。新理論主張歷史和地理，對於經濟體本質及運作的定義，是重要的。即過去的經濟情況，會大大的影響經濟的現況，同時經濟活動是有一個明確的空間和層級的結構。

內生成長理論
對新古典成長理論有一個的批判，是關注與該理論對于技術的處理。新古典成長理論認為技術的進展是外生於經濟成長的，而且技術是被體現于資本投資之中的，此外，技術被認為是一公共財，為世界各地每一家公司皆可獲取的公共財。再者，技術（不像資本或勞動那樣），是不能被直接觀察或量化的。對于總要素生產力之貢獻是後於其它兩個要素的，。另一批判是，新古典忽略了人力資本和知識技能。積極投資的外部性，就自然科學的投資及人力資本的投資，對于經濟成長的貢獻，能較新古典理論所建議的更多一些。然而投資除了會提升該公司的生產力外，於技術上的外溢及其它方面的外溢，亦可有利于國內的其它公司，甚或有利于整個經濟體。

新理論將技術進展和知識進步，納入成長模型之中視為是內生要素；新成長理論是假設知識、技術、技術知識是有別于資本及勞動的另一項獨立的生產要素；新理論假設知識及技術是源自審慎的決策，同時技術的進步，大部分是市場導向的。資本和知識之投資，是可以刺激且強化彼此在累積的因果關系中有一個良性循環。

此外，新古典的成長理論是立即於固定規模報酬之假設，而新經濟是立基于規模經濟的存在之上。因此，新古典理論因為報酬遞減而對于長期成長率之預測，認為是將會下降的，但是新理論卻假定報酬遞增的可能性，而認為成長率不必然是下降的。

新古典理論認為儲蓄率對長期經濟成長率，僅有些許的影響，且將技術視為是外生的，但是內生成長理論卻提出政府的政策，透過推動國內儲蓄率及投資率的提高以及增加對於研究發展的支持，是導致一個持續性的高經濟成長率。

新成長理論和新古典經濟學的完全競爭市場之基本假設是相對的，也就是相對於公司是為價格接收者的信念，認為價格是由市場所決定的，所以公司不能輕易的改變他們所需付出的價格。新成長理論卻假設，因為報酬遞增是可能的，所增加的產出可以降低單位成本，同時公司亦可因此增加利潤，意即公司是一個價格設定者。

新理論將人力資本強調為是經濟成長的關鍵，以削弱趨同理論。根據新理論，富者將越富，貧者——除非他們會投資於人力資源之上——將會持續落后於富者之后，國際經濟將繼續以國家質檢高度的不平等作為其特色。新成長理論暗語各國經濟將是不對稱成長的，而非他們會變成趨同的。

新經濟地理學
地區性的經濟群聚及其存續，通常是無法用新古典學派所強調的要素秉賦來加以解釋的。盡管比較利益原則主張一個產業選擇其落腳處，主要是由要素稟賦決定，但是要素稟賦卻不適合也不能解釋許多重要產業因何選擇其落腳處。新經濟地理學通常認為要以非經濟要素、路徑依賴、機會及積累的過程等，來說明制造業的緣起及聚集，以及在特定的區位的其它經濟活動。

根據新經濟地理學，在意特定地區中經濟活動的原始落腳處及聚集，通常僅是取決於機會或是歷史的偶然，然而，一旦一個產業或經濟活動建立之后，積累的力量及回饋的機制，於一段延續期間之內，該地區將可持續的產生經濟活動的聚集。路徑依賴暗指經濟的領域——生產技術、經濟制度、及經濟活動之地理分佈——大部分是許多次要的隨機發展之結果。而傳統的經濟學是假設，有多少因就會有多少果，亦即，二者之間是有線性關系的。路徑依賴的分析指出，小的，甚至非常小的因，可能會引起不成比例的大果。

戰略性貿易理論
STT挑戰了經濟學以前所明確支持的自由貿易之理論基礎。事實上，戰略性貿易理論的發展，是因為不滿與傳統貿易理論越來越不能對毛及類型進行解釋之刺激，和關注美國貿易問題的持續增加。

STT提供了一個理論基礎予國家去使用保護主義式手段、補貼特定產業、以及其它形式的產業政策，以令其國內公司在國內市場及世界市場上，具有一個決定性的優勢。

STT的核心觀念是一些公司及政府可以在不完全競爭的全球市場上采取戰略性的行為，因此去促進一個國家的貿易平衡和國家福利。這既定著有一些市場是以不完全競爭或寡占競爭作為特色的。

STT與傳統貿易理論相對的地方，是其假設一些特定的經濟部門，相較整個經濟體中的其他領域，是更為重要的，同時令政府有理由去支持該特定經濟部門。

2012中的中國形象

看這個電影之前，我一點都不了解2012的相關背景。世界末日，瑪雅預言從來都沒聽說過。也不知道電影里會出現這么多跟中國相關的情節。看到以后，才發現里面關于中國的部分，很值得進行思考。

我會特別關注好萊塢電影對于中國在世界上所扮演角色的詮釋。2012里最能讓不少中國人YY的是諾亞方舟及其相關的水壩工程都是在中國建設的。電影里美國政府官員也有這樣一句話，多虧了中國強大的制造業，才可能在這么短的時間內建造出來。我相信這是大多數西方人的想法，強大的制造業已經成為中國新的名片。在現實世界里與之相對應的，是西方國家市場被made in China的產品所占據。平日里不斷抱怨國內市場被大量廉價的中國制造的產品所沖垮，而在世界末日來臨之際，卻要靠中國來拯救。而且，美國政府官員平日里總嚷嚷著要中國政府加薪保障勞工權益，真正災難到來之際，那位官員的表現又如何？制造諾亞方舟的工人竟然不能上船，這真是對西方國家的一個強烈的諷刺。

西方人真的覺醒了嗎？在他們的眼中中國真的是救世主嗎？答案當然不是。電影里，拯救世界的仍然是美國人，中國只不過是打打下手。拯救人類的關鍵人物，是美國的一位黑人科學家。中國甚至連參與決策的角色都沒撈到，美國總統第一時間告知的仍然是西方國家占主流的G8會議。這難道不令人懷疑嗎？G8會議大部分的議題是經濟議題，真正主管全球安全事務的是聯合國安理會，中國作為安理會常任理事國竟然沒有在第一時間知曉信息。這真正彰顯出美國人對中國包括俄羅斯人的不信任。

紅五星和綠軍衣是電影里最多出現的有關中國的視覺符號。“黨和政府一定會幫助大家。”這句話卻是一位穿著綠軍裝的軍人所說。我很佩服電影導演，能夠把中國黨政軍一體的情況這么傳神的表現出來。電影里軍人的強權形象一覽無遺，從拉走藏人做勞工，到舉槍威脅男主角一家和俄羅斯富翁，處處體現的是強硬和不近人情。要不是惦記著中國的票房市場，我真的覺得電影導演在塑造中國形象上可能會更為負面。

與之相對比的是，藏人形象在電影里卻是十分高尚。2012這部電影，似乎時時刻刻都在提醒著觀眾，中國和西藏是兩層皮，不一樣的。藏人的宗教色彩和綠軍裝的軍人格格不入，藏人友善對待男主角一家和中國軍人端槍恐嚇的對比，潛移默化地向觀眾灌輸西藏不屬于中國的觀點。

硬實力提升了，軟實力也要大大加強。要改變世界對中國的刻板印象，政府還有許多亟需改善之處。什么時候好萊塢電影里對中國當代（不是古代）主流價值觀進行推崇，那才是真正中國強大的時刻。

journal 11.6

I think most people will admit that college life is wonderful. As a result of which, I hear this kind of talking a lot during my past two year in college.

"I can't imagine how I am going to face up to the difficulties when I graduate."

"Me too! I like my college life so much and I wish I can be in college forever!"

Then they will sigh at each other and looked very worried. It seems that this is the end of the world to these people. 

Today when I pass through fountain I find that the graduating students are taking their graduation photographs together. Most of them are very happy except two girls who are hugging each other and weeping. Their behavior makes their classmates uncomfortable and embarrassing.

Now I am in my junior year. In no time, I am gonna face the issue myself. I definitely will miss my college life. The people you know in college, the room where you have classes, the food served in the canteen, the activities you attend, the indescribable KTV nights...etc. Those beautiful memories will always take a place in my heart but we should move on.

Every ending is a new beginning. The life will step into a new stage. Of course there are challenges waiting for us in the future, but there are also a lot highlights we are going to create. Those girls are really borrowing trouble.

Some media scholars say that Internet makes people shallow. I turned up my nose at this opinion, because I think Internet is just another form of media and the content doesn't change at all. However, what I saw today makes me rethink this issue.

A few days ago, a famous Chinese scientist passed away. He had made great contribution to the space engineering of China. Today is his farewell ceremony. Renren.com, which is very similar to Facebook.com and enjoys great popularity among students in the mainland of China, has added a webpage on its website. The users can post some words that they want to say on the page. Up to now , there are more than 200 thousand messages on that page.

Here comes the point. Is this act enough to memory the scientist? Students log on to Renren.com and find there is a website. They just incidentally input some characters and this is it. They might feel that I did something and I was aware of that. After doing that, they just do what they want to do with a quiet conscience.

I think this is kind of pathetic. Is the great scientist only worth some keyboard percussions? The design of the memory webpage just simplified the memoriam activity. It became more entertaining and less serious. We lost the solemn and respectful sense and the whole procession is just like a mere formality.

Who should be responsible for this? The webmaster or the users? Neither of them is false. I think it's the Internet should be blamed. Just like I said at the beginning, Internet makes people shallow. The form of Internet decides what people would do in the Internet. McLuhan had said the medium is the message. It seems that his theory was proved once again.

How unwritten rules circumscribe our lives

On the train people sit face to face. Some people feel that it is an awkward situation. If you look forward, you will see the other passenger's face.That behavior will make the other passenger uncomfortable.  Otherwise, you have to pretend to look at the ground or out of the train window. I believe most people would take the second measure except young kids who will directly look at you with their innocent eyes.

However, this is not a rule you can find in the law book. No one is going to be in jail if he insists of doing this. It seems that there is a invisible angle floating over you head telling you that you'd better not do this. To be more specific, the unwritten rules play an important part in our lives. In many  occasions, the invisible angle over your head will instruct you.

Every time I go to the library I am interested about how the student choose their seats. A guy picks up a book which he wants to read and he looks around to find a desk. If there is another empty table, he would never choose a nearer desk where there is already a person. Even though the desk could accommodate 4 or 6 people.  If there is no empty desk at all, he definitely will choose to sit diagonally but not face to face. This occasion occurs to everyone. It seems that there is a very clear principle(actually there isn't) that when people face with the choice of where to sit. The principle is very clear—stay away from the other guy as far as possible.

The invisible angle will come out to remind you when you see the old man get on the bus. After a long day's work, you are tired and exhausted. However, the invisible angle just doesn't want to make you feel well if you let the old stand by you. Here comes the same question, you won't be suited if you don't offer your seats. Why does everybody still invite the old to be seated?

The reason is that we all share the same values.Most people in the society agree that we should follow some rules. Some of them are incorporated into legislation while others are not, but they still affect our lives a lot. Sometimes they even are stronger than the written ones. We can't pretend they do not exist.

Journal 11.4

I don't have any religious belief, even though I think some principles of the Buddhism or Catholicism  are very meaningful. The reason is that I already know  the supernatural beings don't exist. Why do the adherents of Jesus keep telling me that God is always there? Isn't that statement ridiculous? I am a rational man and if I believe what they said then I am totally an idiot. 

The lecture I attended toady definitely changed something in my mind. The topic of this lecture was about the meaning of life. The lecturer was the famous cardinal bishop Shan Kuo-Hsi who got cancer in 2006. Most time of the lecture, he was telling several instructive stories which had affected his life, but what really shocked me was this sentence:God is nothing but love. 

God is love. This explanation suddenly made me feel refreshed. I can't stand an imaginary man calling himself dominating all the creatures but I could accept love being the God, because everyone in the world needs love and love can make the world better. I don't know whether this explanation about God is officially admitted by the Roman Church, but it's more convincible. 

The catholics I saw are all kind and nice. They care about other people and they would like to help those in trouble. However, they dreamed of seeing the Pope. I have seen some crazy followers dying to kiss the feet of Pope. I don't know what other people would think, but I believe this is not right and this could lead to a disaster. 

One friend of mine had experienced this embarrassment a few days ago. She went to a temple and happened to meet a famous religious leader. What surprised her was everyone but her knelt down. My friend knew the Buddhist leader was famous and respectable but the leader didn't deserve to be knelt. Finally she compromised since she didn't want to be considered as alienated by her fellows.

Actually all I want to say is I wish there is more rationality in the religion. Maybe I am too strict but I do believe only by being more rational religion can exist in the future.

Why does this website have such a magic power?

First, Facebook satisfies users' social needs. Nowadays people are too busy at work to make contact with their families or friends. It is quite common that you won't see your siblings until next Spring Festival comes. While, Facebook could help you as a virtual community where you can communicate with each other. You can write a blog or post some photographs to inform you friends what you are doing. Besides, you can make new friends on Facebook, even though you never met each other.

Second, Facebook is a website which provides a lot entertainment. People can find thousands of interesting games here. Of course Facebook is not a professional game website and that is not its advantage. However, the games on Facebook have their unique charms. People do not need to spend much time on it, but by playing them people can have fun and release pressure.

Last but not least, peoople feel excited using Facebook because they can experience something new. For example, a lot of people are attracted by a program called happy farms. You can grow plants on your own farm and harvest gains when they come to macurity. However, the essence of the game is that you can steal crops from the farms of your friends. Stealing is illegal in the real world but it's OK in the virtual world. People like to reap without sowing.

It should not be surprised that so many people love Facebook since it satisfies the needs perfectly. The website provides a virtual place where you can communicate, where you can have fun and where you can feel exciting.

A few minutes ago, one of my classmates who also came to Taiwan as exchange students was talking to me through MSN. "I have brook up with my girlfriend yesterday. " I was surprised by this message and asked him why the relationship was ended. He just kept silence, sending some suspension points to me.

In the first half year of 2009, I would never imagine they could break up, since they always hooked up with each other. They shared the same interests and they looked so matched. Everyone around them agreed that they were born together. Even a guy who had a little crush on the girl held the same opinion.

I think both of them had thought about what would happen after they guy came to Taiwan. Would the distance affect their relationship? I believe they both had a suspicious of that. At that time, I had joked with the guy, "Chances are that your girlfriend will abandon you if you are not by her side!" I didn't know that the joke would come true.

If the guy didn't come to Taiwan, would they end up together? I doubt that because they have to face the "distance" issue two years later when they are graduated. As I know, they are from different provinces. It will be perfect if they find satisfied jobs in the same city but who knows what will happen in the future? The guy may stay in Xiamen or go back to their hometowns or go to bigger city like Beijing or Shanghai, so may the girl.

I am kind of pessimistic about the college love. Of course there are successful examples around, but there are more failed couples. So many factors could affect the relationship especially when the couple graduate from the college and face the practical problems.

I will take their experience as a lesson, hoping I can find my Miss Right soon.

journal 10.25

October 25th, Sunday, Sunny
"Mayday is going to hold a minor concert today in Kaohsiung to thank their fans that 55555 tickets were sold out in just one weekend." We heard this information through the radio in the train. Even though our schedule was tight, we still decided to go to see their performance.

When we got the central park where this concert would be held, there were already hundreds of people waiting for the show. Most of them were teenagers and college students, crowding in front of the stage, shouting Mayday's name.

Finally, after 30 minutes from the established time, Mayday appeared on the stage. The atmosphere there was extremely hot. I was not one of their fans, but I couldn't help but waving hands with them and singing the sangs.

I did feel the power of Idol, who was able to make all the people excited. Everyone in the scene was crazy and they seemed like using the drugs. I was also involved in the heat.

After the excitement, I want to figure out where did the power come from. Music itself can't explain all parts of the phenomenon.  Everyone has a MP3 or CD player and they don't behave as they were in the concert. Besides, the idol himself must have a charming personality. It doesn't need to be amiable, sometimes the personality of the idol could be cool, like Faye Wong, but it has to be unique and distinct.

I think the most important reason that fans showed unbelievable craziness in the concert is about the time and the place. The concert just provided proper time and proper place. The fans are mostly young and they need a place to release their emotion after listening to the rock style  music. It will be strange if they wave hands or scream in the public places or at home, but it is the right thing in the concert or KTV. If lot of people gather together ,the "improper behaviors " thing isn't a problem any more.

I didn't buy the ticket for the Mayday concert. I am regretting now.

journal 10.17

October 17th, Saturday, Sunny
"Come on! You can do this!" My peers along with me were encouraging me. I was on the ship at that time,wearing a life jacket,while my peers were riding on a long boat made of rubber without any security fence on it. It  was called the "banana boat" which is very popular in Kenting.

I hesitated a lot at that moment. On one side I am scared of water. Every time I traveled to the city at the seaside, I would never enter the sea. When my family or friends were playing in the seawater, I would just walk on the beach and play with the sands.

Actually there was a story. When I was 5 years old, I almost drowned in a pool. Ever since then, I began avoiding any activities concerning the water. I hate the feeling when my body was submerged by the water. I have nothing to hold and I have to try my best to make my head out of water. How could not other people feel dangerous and what is the pleasure?

Back to the scene happening in Kenting, everyone on the boat was looking at me. I was embarrassed. "Behave like a man!""There is nothing to worry about! You are wearing a life vest!"...It seemed that everyone on the boat was judging me. I decided to ignore them until I heard a little boy talking to me,"don't be afraid, I will go with you."  Finally, I decided to have a try.

As I expected, the banana boat was overturned by the waves and all the people were throwed to the sea. I was choked by the salty water and floating on the water until the boat came to pull us on board. I don't like this feeling, but it wasn't as hard as I had imagined. It's just so-so.

Today's experience inspired me. I should never imagine something to be so hard  that I dare not to have a try. Sometimes it is myself who is exaggerating the difficulties and I was not conscious of it. I tried the banana boat and I still didn't like it, but there might be something I do like and I missed. Have a try, and don't make regrets in my life.

English writing assignment 1

Last year, the financial crisis made a lot of people out of employment.  As a result of which, we all found that it was harder to make a living. Some people may concern that the unemployment could cause living problems and propose that the government should provide those people with basic living products. However, I believe the damage to the heart is more importmant. Being unemployed can cause people to lose their self-respect.

People who lost their jobs need to confront with the living problem. They need to feed themselves and their families if they are married. Even though we might have enough savings to survive the unemployed period,  people are still worried. It is hard to remain the self-respect state of mind when a person needs to worry about what to eat tomorrow. Losing the job definitely could change the standard of living which could damage the self-respect. People might think I used to eat out in the restaurant and now I have to cook the dinner myself. The adaption to that is not easy.

Another reason of people losing their self-respect is about the value of life. When people have a good job, they believe they are useful to the society. Once they lost their jobs, their careers were ruined. People may think I am useless now. Everyone wants to be needed and that feeling is horrible when you feel you are discarded by the society.

Thirdly but not the least, the unemployed have to face the judgement from other people. It is never easy to pretend nothing when your neighbors talking gossip about you. Sometimes people have faith in themselves, we believe everything is gonna be OK. We tell ourselves that the economic crisis will come over and we could get a new job. It's those gossips that make people feel bad. They just begin to suspect themselves and definitely this could damage people's self-respect.

All in all, self-respect means a lot to people especially to those who are unemployed. The society should pay more attention to this issue and make preparations to prevent this situation.

公關作業之二 求職小傳

每一個人在求職前都會對自我進行審查，我也不例外。我能勝任這份工作嗎？我能把這份工作做得長久嗎？跟其他人相比，我的優勢又在哪里呢？這是我在求職前進行的思考。

First, I can. 我就讀于廈門大學新聞傳播學院，主攻國際新聞方向。經過四年的學習，對于撰寫新聞稿已經有了全面的了解。在大學四年中，既有新聞采寫、新聞攝影以及報刊編輯這樣的實踐課，也有傳播心理、中外新聞史這樣的理論課。在校內媒體擔任過雜志主編，在暑假里也去過校外媒體實習，已經有了一些撰寫新聞的實踐經驗。在處理人際關系方面，我也有相當的自信。學生干部的經歷讓我收獲了不少與老師、同學打交道的經驗，并且組織過幾次大型活動，我相信這些經驗都會讓我在未來的公關工作中受益。

Second，I will. 我對這份工作有著十二分的熱忱。剛剛擺脫了學生的身份，最需要的就是接觸社會，接觸各式各樣的人士。公關工作大概是最需要跟人交往的，而這正是我最感興趣的。公關工作在我心目中非常有意義，在整個公司里扮演著非常重要的角色。就像交響樂團的指揮，對外代表整個公司的形象，對內則需要處理好成員之間的關系。當看到公司的業績因為自己公關工作的緣故而提升，看到社會上對于公司形象的好評時，那種成就感和自我價值實現的感覺是其它工作比不來的。

Last， I am different. 細細想來，在我人生中每一個轉折點，似乎都跟別人不一樣。出生在山東，卻來到福建廈門讀書，又跑到臺灣做交流生。對于三個地方的風土人情都有了一定的見識，這在公關工作中肯定會有幫助。作為一名新聞專業畢業生，我所掌握的也不僅僅是寫新聞。攝影是我的業余愛好，拍照的技術絕對可以勝任為公文配圖的要求，這樣采、攝就可以同時進行。另外，對于其它媒介，像廣播節目制作、電視節目制作、報紙排版、電子書等等，我也掌握了相應的軟件技術。雖然說不上精通，但是應對一般的工作并不成問題。

I can, I will and I am different. 這就是我的求職宣言。在您看過這五百字的小傳之后，希望您會認為雇傭我會是一件雙贏的事情。

September 5th, Monday                                           Rainy

Today is a normal day, but the true significance of life is to try to find something meaningful from the common things, right? It's really important to pay attention to the details in our lives, otherwise we will miss something and regret.

When I first came to Kaohsiung, I didn't realize anything different from Xiamen, except the motorbikes running everywhere. But when the days went on, I found some tiny differences. It's these minor details that remind me I am in Taiwan now.

Today I went to the library to borrow a book. First I went to the computers to search the book on the Internet. When I was done, I found that there was a little box lying on the top of the computer which contained some pieces of paper. What was the paper used for here? Then the guy beside me took one piece from the box, wrote down the number of the book and took it to find the book on the bookshelf.

I understood. Students didn't need to take out their notebooks to take down the book number. It was so convenient! What's more, this paper was used on one side, but the other side was clean. This strategy could make full use of the paper which was supposed to be discarded directly.

I had seen several such details in the I-Shou University. The class schedule at the entrance of every classroom, the three different degrees of water available at any time, the bags for the umbrella in the rainy days...just to name a few. Some people might say it's not a big deal. Yes, I agree. But it’s these minor details that make our lives better.

I will write a report to Xiamen University when I return, telling the management what I saw in I-Shou University. I am sure my schoolmates would feel warm if my advice is taken.

journal 10.4

October 4th, Sunday                                             Cloudy

I always treasure those moments when I am inspired about life, since it's too busy for us to think about our lives nowadays. I will count this midnight in, because at that moment I feel lucky that I am alive, healthily.

It was about 1:30 in the midnight. I just finished a film and was ready to go to bed. Suddenly I felt the floor rocked slightly. At the beginning I just thought it's a hallucination due to the late stay-up. However I found the lamp on the ceiling was swaying! Now I realized it's an earthquake!

For a moment, my mind went blank. It would exaggerate if I said I had never experienced an earthquake before, but never one with such strong feelings. The earthquake happened in Sichuan Province last year left me a great impression. What if this one was comparative to that one? Was I going to die? And I thought of my family and my friends. Was I never going to see you?

At this time, my roommate ran out of the room and told me to go downstairs. I stopped letting my mind running away and went with him. Lots of students were scared and gathered in the ground floor. For the students from the mainland, this was huge. Everyone was talking to each other and trying to figure out where and when the earthquake happened, with a nervous expression on their faces.

After a few minutes, it seemed everything went to normal. I came back to my dormitory with fear lingering in my heart. I realized I had just escaped from an earthquake, even though there was no casualty. I knew it’s midnight but I still began to send messages to my parents and friends telling what happened and how much I loved them. The only thing I was feeling at that time was how lucky I was. I really should cherish my life.

A lot of people died in earthquakes but we lived. The earthquake was just like an alarm clock that God had placed in my life to remind me to treasure what I have and be graceful. In some point, I should be thankful to the earthquake. 

公關實務作業之一

內文主旨

這是一篇訪談錄，對話雙方是雲門舞集的創辦人林懷民和聯合報的社長王文杉。林懷民以一個公共知識分子的身份批評了聯合報的種種弊端，并提出了自己的意見和建議。在訪談中，林懷民不僅對于聯合報的辦報方針發表了意見，對于臺灣社會種種不良現象，他也說出了自己的看法。總的來說，這篇訪談錄包含了林懷民對于臺灣媒體以及社會的深刻的反思，擔憂之情呼之欲出。

作者觀點

1.聯合報的政治色彩不應太過濃厚，更不應該卷入政治斗爭中，成為政黨的宣傳報。

2.聯合報不應該太過關注政治議題，而應該多一些與臺灣人生活相關的公共議題。普通人不需要這么多的政治新聞。

3.缺乏國際視野，臺灣不能自決于世界。

4.每周回顧一定要有背景說明，告訴讀者跟台灣有什麼關係。

5.所有訊息都與商業、消費文化有關。

6.報紙不需要太多的影劇新聞，文化的東西要多一些。

7.現在只有吵架的文化，連語言都沒有。

8.聯合報應該培養各種專欄作家。臺灣要有人說話是大家愿意去聽的。

9.整個媒體里沒有人的觸動，人的溫暖和感覺要出來。

10.社會最需要關注文化議題。因為決定未來發展的是文化。

11.聯合報一直在談族群融合，可是你的報紙沒有做到，你在參與族群的分裂，一面控訴別人，你卻沒有比別人好，你石頭丟得比別人兇，因為你有武器。

12.對政府政策要平衡來看，把問題剖析來看。

13.報紙一天到晚改版，讀者簡直找不到要的東西。

我對文章的批判

1.林懷民認為對于新聞事件要有回顧，要從頭說起。這對于報紙來說很不現實，報紙不是雜志，要強調時效性和版面限制。不可能對每一個新聞事件都進行補課。

2.林懷民身為一位文化界人士，對于文化議題猶為關注，在某種程度上忽略了政治和經濟對于社會的重要作用。

3.林懷民認為對政府政策的批判不能太偏激，要平衡來看。這樣的批評方式肯定會在一定程度上喪失文筆的尖銳性，文章過于平穩并不是一件好事。

4.林懷民對于聯合報的指責許多都是當今媒體的通病。應該說，媒體的內容在某種程度上是受眾決定的。受眾的喜好是媒體生存的根本，這種市場的壓力是他所體會不到的。

如何改變林懷民的觀點

1.向他解釋報紙運營過程中的種種困難，讓報社的記者以及發行人員和他進行溝通。雙方進行良好的互動，讓他明白報紙的生存壓力。

2. 邀請他來報社參觀，讓他知道報社運行的整個流程，更能體諒作為媒體的不易之處。

3.可以看到的是，臺灣并沒有一份可以讓林懷民完全滿意的報紙，這與整個媒介環境是有關系的。報紙一定要符合受眾的需求，如果受眾不關心的議題，那報紙肯定是不會去關注的。

4.林懷民自己是有一定的政治立場的，在評判聯合報時，難免會帶上藍綠色彩。要向他說明這一點，并找一家綠營媒體作對比，說明綠媒也好不到哪里去。

Journal 9.26

Today, our school has organized a trip for us exchange students. The half day we spent in Fo Guang Shan is very pleasant. From this experience I have learned a lot that Buddhism does not only consist of those hard-understanding Buddhist scriptures but also contain a lot humanity.

As soon as we entered the gate, we found groups of kids playing around. The nun who speaks bilingually coming from Canada told us that the "2009 Children Happiness Art Festival" was holding today. The festival consisted of a play concerning about the Monkey King, a painting exhibition and plenty popular science games.

I was a little shocked because we would never see such a scene happening in the temple of the Mainland. The temple was supposed to be serious and mysterious without laughs, running kids and noises. The wall blocked the temple off the world with no interacting with the mass population.

The nun told us Fo Guang Shan had always been aiming to the education. There had been several universities in Taiwan and the U.S. Colorful activities were held regularly in Fo Guang Shan to make contributions to education. All of these were rarely seen in the mainland.

I think the reason why there are differences is the perspective when it comes to the function of religion. Most people in the mainland may think the Buddhism is a way to help himself but not the whole society. It seems there is a wide gap between the temple and the society. On the contrary, the Buddhism in Taiwan is open to everybody and its believers take helping other people as their necessary courses.

I hope that the Buddhism in the mainland can not only focus on the Sutra but also on the environment outside the temple. The temples should try to take off their mysterious clothes and become more human. I believe it is the only way the Buddhism could enhance and glorify.
